French Design: Pierre Jeanneret Armchairs from Chandigarh, pair, c. 1955

A pair of authentic arm chairs from Chandigarh deisgned by Pierre Jeanneret. Date of manufacture is between 1955-1960. These chairs are made of solid Burma teak with caned seats and backs. The rear upper rail of each chair base has been stenciled.

This model was designed for both civic and residential use at Chandigarh, the Utopian capital designed by Le Corbusier. The thin open-weave caning has recently been replaced. The seat cushions are new: A black ottoman fabric with chocolate brown welting.

The frames have been masterfully cleaned and waxed-- while maintaining and respecting their patina-- by our blue chip restorer.
